Emma Watson is Vegan!

Well kind of.

The definition of Veganism "is both the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. A follower of either the diet or the philosophy is known as a vegan."
which means technically she is a vegan given she rejects the commodity status of animals, however, is not a follower of the diet.

Regardless of her food choices, Emma is the epitome of sustainable style and ethics always promoting ethical and sustainable fashion in all her red carpet looks. We particularly love her Met Gala dress which was made from recycled plastic.

Emma also signed up for the Green Carpet Challenge in 2015, agreeing that every single piece she wears on the red carpet would be sustainable. Leading the charge in promoting sustainable fashion with other celebrities like Alicia Silverstone, Pharrell Williams, Kate Mara, and dozens more committed to making cruelty-free and Eco-friendly fashion mainstream.
Emma chose to wear a whole host of brands on her Beauty & Beast movie tour, which included animal-free footwear using sustainable materials such as canvas, hemp, and faux leather produced from recycled plastic bottles. She wore clothes from the world’s first luxury brand that is committed to producing products that do not use leather, skins, feathers or fur. Emma recently launched her ethical fashion Instagram page: The Press Tour which has now over 500,000 followers, she promotes sustainable fashion because she truly believes in it.

In a recent interview she said

“I’ve wanted to move away from calling anything ‘green,’ ‘eco,’ or ‘sustainable', because those words are very non-descriptive in most ways! It’s very difficult to know what they actually mean.”

She has an in-depth understanding of the fashion industry and has been a great influence over the years.

Although the star does not follow a vegan diet, her choice to give exposure to cruelty-free, vegan and PETA approved ethical brands on and beyond her tour can only be a good thing for the fashion industry.

I fully support what she’s doing and trying to do, but i don’t think she’s vegan in anyway as she eats meat, but this isn’t her saying she’s vegan it’s the website so technically she hasn’t done anything wrong

What is meat sold as food if not a commodity? Animals are harmed and killed for profit and marketed as food. Anyone who supports that by buying those products is NOT vegan. I repeat – she is NOT vegan.

The struggle to understand how so many otherwise intelligent and seemingly compassionate people in this world are not vegan is overwhelming. Feminists, eco warriors etc. what are you missing that allows you to totally overlook the plight of animals on this planet. it’s mind boggling. No matter who you are, rich, famous, or an old friend, I just can’t take anyone seriously anymore unless they are vegan, that’s my base line 💚

Fay marshall April 26, 2020

Oh that’s crap you cant be vegan if you eat meat, yes I love Emma is awesome but you can’t be vegan if you eat meat. I’ve been vegan sense I was 4 now Im 13.

Savvy April 23, 2020

I’ve been a vegetarian for five years now and I’m 13. Even though she doesn’t support the diet, she is still promoting the vegan lifestyle in many ways and supports it.

Kylie Holmes April 19, 2020

she isn’t rejecting the commodity status of animals, shes enforcing it. she eats them! she makes them into products by paying for them to be!

brook feilder April 03, 2020

oh Shut up! What a load of crap! You can’t be vegan if you eat meat

Caroline Blyth January 17, 2020

If she eats animals, then she’s not vegan.

Scott September 18, 2019

Being vegan isn’t a diet either its an ethical movement when the treatment of or use of animals in any kind is unjust and therefore not acceptable. I am surprised someone who considers themselves a feminist is happy to finance industry’s where females are literally raped, have their babies taken and then are sucked dry of the milk they produce for their stolen infant (who, is male is usually just killed). How can you preach equality when you refuse to acknowledge the implications your actions have on billions of sentient, emotional and intelligent beings all over the world. I’d love to see her actually step up and follow up on her claims but to me, she is just an ignorant hypocrite.

Primary is the thought and then an important process can start. If we would close down all slaughterhouses at once this may cause some trouble. But if she sticks to it, it would be great because it is a very important thing for her being healthy and to help her in getting on a higher spiritual level than she already is on :)

I agree with the other comments. Veganism is a lifestyle, grounded especially in the plant-based vegan diet. I do think this should not take away from Emma’s efforts, however; I think it is admirable that she is making an effort in her own way. Not yet vegan, but making steps toward it, and any step should be applauded. I wonder why she isn’t vegan though—I assume if she cares about the environment, she is aware of the sustainability-related benefits of veganism?

Jayson February 22, 2019

It’s really really hard to say that someone is vegan, because her extravangat dress is made of plastic waste. I only wear 2nd hand clothes, can I start eating meat again and still consider myself vegan? I hope not..
You can’t be vegan without a vegan diet, it’s the core fundament of veganism, since every single person can easily stop consuming animal products. You can’t consider someone vegan, who willingly contributes to animal cruelty in the most obvious and most easily avoidable way. In fact this is as hypocritical as it gets.
There is no difference between slaughtering minks for pelt or slaughtering other animals for your ham sandwich.

Julian Ullrich April 30, 2018

If she eats animals she’s not even close to being vegan. What is the author of this peice on?

Natalie April 23, 2018

Please look at what being vegan really is. ‘Technically’ she is certainly not vegan if she eats animals and their products..
