Oliberté is a sustainable brand supporting workers’ rights in sub-Saharan Africa. The company believes in empowerment, transparency, and doing right by all. This means making premium quality products with a lifetime warranty, and it means treating every employee, everywhere in the world, with respect.
In 2009, it started off as a small footwear company partnering with factories and suppliers in Africa. Since then, Oliberté has gained enough momentum to launch its very own factory in 2012. They make every single pair of Oliberté shoes at this factory in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In September 2013, they also became the world’s first Fair Trade Certified™ footwear manufacturing factory.
“This means making premium quality products with a lifetime warranty, and it means treating every employee, everywhere in the world, with respect"
Premium cow and goat leather from Ethiopia is used in all production, free-range and hormone-free, sourced from local eco-friendy tanneries. Oliberté is Fair Trade certified, a certified B Corp and a member of 1% for the Planet, a coalition of businesses donating 1% of all proceeds to environmental projects.
Oliberté’s goal is to create sustainable jobs in Africa by staying local – sourcing materials there as well as hiring and manufacturing locally – so that people can start, or continue to, define their own lives. Beyond creating sustainable jobs, Oliberté aspires to demonstrate that Africa creates quality, handcrafted goods that can shine in any market and is a continent of pride, power, and liberty.
