Two old high-school friends, Lukas and Philip are Mexico-Admirers and the founders of CANO. Ever since high school, their passion has been dedicated to creating high-quality handcrafted huaraches and promoting sustainable craftsmanship in the international fashion industry.
CANO is a young shoe brand that stands for sustainable and ethically handmade Mexican huaraches. With their handmade huaraches, CANO strives to combine their three bases of fashion – uniqueness, quality, and comfort.
CANO puts Mexican craftsmanship on the international fashion landscape and gives the artisans the credit they deserve by introducing their high-quality handcrafted huaraches as a stylish, ethical and sustainable alternative to fast fashion.
The materials used in production are carefully sourced. The leather, as their most important resource, is vegetable tanned following a traditional 200-year-old method. The cowhides are dyed using plant and earth-based tanning agents instead of harmful chemicals and are naturally dried outside over multiple days.
CANO believes and strides for ZERO waste. Common shoe designs usually require large parts of the hide to be cut out, which leaves significant amounts of leather in shapes that are unusable for further production. However, the huarache is made out of leather strings, which can be cut out of almost any part of the hide leaving almost no remainders.
Every company’s most valuable resource is its people, as these create the products or services and are, therefore, responsible for the company’s reason to exist. This is CANO’s philosophy. Conclusively, CANO ensures fair working conditions by allowing the artisans to have a lot of freedom regarding their work environment. This especially enables mothers to do their work from home in order to take care of their children while making a living.
