You can read about each step of the garment creation process for this dress below.
FABRIC MANUFACTURING
This fabric is printed by Macrofast, a GOTS certified fabric company in Southern India. They are committed to quality and sustainable fabric printing.
The fabric is digitally printed, as this produces far less waste than traditional full-colour screen printing does.
They source only GOTS certified fabric from their network of suppliers.
They source only GOTS certified fabric from their network of suppliers.
Being GOTS certified means that not only is the fabric organic (and not from seeds owned by large multinationals) but also that there is no forced or child labour, and a living wage is paid.
You can read more on Macrofast's website.
GARMENT MAKING
The Lottie dresses are made by Segom Pty Ltd.
Segom is a manufacturing agent and manufacturer based in Sydney. It is run by Mogie, who contracts other local makers to construct our garments, as well as making them herself.
WASHING AND PRESSING
We wash a test-swatch, and calculate any shrinkage. This is incorporated into the sizing of the pattern.
When the garments are delivered to us, we cold hand wash with environmentally friendly products to pre-shrink them. We then line dry them in our garden, and iron them while watching netflix.
LABELS
Our woven labels and printed care labels come from Mpressive Label Creations. They are based in Thomastown VIC.
PACKAGING
Our swing tags, stickers, and insert cards are printed on 100% recycled materials in Fitzroy, VIC by Print Together. They specialise in environmentally responsible printing.
Our tissue paper is printed by No Issue. They use environmentally friendly soy-based inks, and all their paper is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.
SOCIAL IMPACT
10% of the profits of this garment are donated to ONE GIRL.
Souten Clothing Co creates effortless and playful garments in sizes 6 to 18 for wearers of women’s clothing, with a focus on ethical consumerism and transparent manufacturing.
Each item has been thoughtfully designed to be easy to wear, but make a statement with bold prints and bright colours.
Every step of the process is transparent, from how the base fabrics are made, through to manufacturing and shipping. We strive to make each step as sustainable and ethical as possible, from the cotton being grown by a collective of organic cotton farmers in north-eastern India, to the garments arriving at your door in packaging made from recycled materials.
Souten Clothing Co believes that fashion is a feminist issue; 80% of garment workers are women, and 75% of fashion purchases are made by women. The best way to support women the world over is to educate them. 10% to 50% of the profits of each item are donated to One Girl, which provides education for girls in the developing world. Approximately half of our collection is manufactured in India by Saheli Women - a social enterprise that gives women marketable skills and economic independence, and supports all their daughters to complete school.
Souten Clothing products ship from Australia.
We endeavour to ship all of your items within two business days of your order. During sale periods, it may take a day longer due to the high volume of orders we receive.*
Orders going to a physical business or residential address are sent with Sendle. We use Sendle as their environmental commitment has made them the first 100% carbon neutral shipping company in Australia.
Items sent to PO boxes, parcel lockers, and parcel connect points will be sent with Australia Post. This is because these locations are privately owned by Australia Post, and they do not permit other delivery companies access.
*except for pre-order items, which will be shipped as soon as possible.
