Ethical Homewares: Introducing Kandila Co. ?️
Kandila Co. is a Melbourne-based candle company that gives back to community. It all started in 1998 when founder – Janice, began collecting scented candles. Back then, every candle was the same to her. Fast forward to 2005 when she moved to Australia with her husband – Mark, she learnt of the many different kinds of waxes, fragrances and additives used in making a typical store-bought candle. She still loved visiting shops and browsing candle collections but started to become mindful of what’s in them especially after she found out that some of those ingredients are harmful to herself and the environment.
Her quest for the perfect candle soon ended after she attended workshops and discovered soy wax – a sustainable and biodegradable alternative to palm and paraffin wax. From then on, she only purchased natural soy wax candles and started making some of her own, only to discover that she absolutely loved the candle making process.
The candles are made from 100% natural, GM-free soy wax. They are perfectly blended with premium Australian-made fragrance oil and use lead-free, natural fibre wicks. The use of renewable, vegan, biodegradable and GM-free materials has made them achieve the Eco Friendly Impact Badge.
Candles are all hard-crafted – which means that they are made in small batches at a time and carefully hand-poured into handmade, reusable and food-grade borosilicate glass or recyclable travel tins. You can use the food-grade glass to store tea, coffee or sugar and use the pretty boxes as a pen holder or to grow herbs and indoor plants.
Every year, Kandila Co. donates 50% of its profits to charities that provide education to children in developing nations. They select an organisation registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission to support.
As of May 2018, they have sponsored 21 kids for 3 consecutive years via our partner charity, The Australian Foundation for Fostering Learning in the Philippines.
in 2019, they have year chosen to support Classroom of Hope, which will allow Kandila to empower vulnerable girls and women from disadvantaged families to participate in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) studies in a 2-year tertiary vocational degree in educational institutions in Cambodia.
Your purchase will help this organisation send kids from impoverished communities to schools, giving them an opportunity to achieve their full potential. Their candles will not only brighten your day but also give hope to these children and enable them to uplift and change their lives.
We are glad to partner with such a brand, and thus we were honoured to present them with the Charity Supporting Impact Badge.
